Stephen Kunkel - U.S.A.

Remember me?

Action Potential of the Neuron or "Nerve Impulse" (simplified rendition):

  • The red dots are electrically-charged Sodium (Na+)Ions.
  • Na+ pumps (non shown) keep them outside of the nerve cell, thus maintaining an electro-polarity between the inside and outside of the cell membrane.
  • The neuron's dendrite (top left) detects an incoming signal from a neighboring nerve cell and actives.
  • This activates the cell body, causing a change in the cell membrane which allows the Na+ to flood in, temporarily dissipating the polarity.
  • This is quickly propagated down the axon of the cell to the cell button.
  • As the impulse passes each section of the nerve cell, the Na+ is pumped back out.
  • One the impulse reaches the terminal button, it triggers the neurotransmitters (blue dots) to cross the synaptic cleft.
  • The neurotransmitters migrate across the cleft and bind to the next receiving neuron.
  • As the action potential continues along, the neurotransmitters are reset for future use and everything is back as it started.

Shapes Shapes

Shapes Shapes, by Stephen Kunkel

This one started as an effort to simulate stained glass but then evolved into something else. It's sort of interesting because it's a repeating image.

Stained Tree

Stained Tree, by Stephen Kunkel

The tree turned out okay. It's not very fancy -- but does sort of look like stained glass.

The Outsider, by Adam J. Blust

The Outsider

I don't know if any of the attached artwork warrants for inclusion in your gallery. It sort of has an "outsider art" feel to it, as if I were some kind of illiterate blind hermit.

Still, I've just been having so much fun with your program that I thought I would share these images. Some of them were inspired by photos I took - I am more of a photographer than an artist.

One Truth, Many Perspectives, by Alexandre Rousseau

One Truth. Many Perspectives.

Or, how we could once afford to play the shell game...

But no perk is without its cost and we shall soon be forced to make the hardest choice of all: the rights of me, or the good of us.

circles, by Edward Delaporte

Roundabout

Here's an artsy piece that I think demonstrates your new circle tool nicely. It took about 20 minutes to create using the circle, line, spraypaint, and highlighter tools. I especially love the spraypaint tool. It creates a much more attractive effect than other spraypaint tools.

Still enjoying Ninerpaint very much. Thanks!

Lighter than Air

I drew this to familiarize myself with the unique pencil tool in Ninerpaint. Once I had the basic concept down, animating it was child's play.

25,601 pixels, by Alexandre Rousseau

25,601 pixels

Rumor has it that pixels are a baser form of expression than splines, whose near-perfect curves and infinite scalability have elevated them to the higher ranks of digital society.

But I don't think so.

I've never met a pixel I didn't like. And though the little guy may be square, he sure can dance. Also, garishly dressed or not, he is, by definition, a colorful fellow.

Try explaining that to a catmull-rom, and thus the reason for these words of appreciation, for without pixels, digital expression would be just a formula.

Signed,
a fan.

long lost memories, by Alexandre Rousseau

organic power grid

Fellow pixel artist Rob Davenport was complaining of energy fields and their effect on nearby electronics, and this came to mind.
Pay particular attention to the transient, dividing cell at center left. It could be the evidence that Rob has been searching for all these years.

100 million years ago, it crawled out from the sea, somewhere off the coast of Africa.
Now, the Swimming Tree can be found just about everywhere, in our dreams.

Daphnee Cajelais - Canada

First steps, by Daphnee Cajelais

First Steps

Here are the first and second drawings that my daughter Daphnee (5 years old) did with the demo version. She was the test to decide if I would buy it or not. At first I thought the interface was complicated, but after explaining it to her (5 minutes) she started drawing and 45 minutes later she had done those two drawings. I was impressed when I saw her first one so I ended up buying the full version.

I recommend this software for all ages.

Fully Loaded

This is a little animation I did to test my abilities as a "Niner Animator". I'm very pleased with the way it turned out... and I think NinerPaint will end up working its way into my permanent arsenal of animation tools... it's great for figuring out complex scenes prior to sitting down in front of the animation desk or computer - to produce the full size animated scene!

Conan

Mr. O'brian is my favorite Late Night talk show host, and the other night, while watching Conan... I had my Palm handy so I thought I'd open up NinerPaint and put together a little image of my man Conan.

Jessica

This is an image I did while drooling over a picture of Jessica Alba on the cover of "Game Informer Magazine". Obviously this drawing isn't spot on... but it's a start.

A day at the races, by Ryan Sadwick

Just Drive

The car sketches are for a short film called "Just Drive". Once we've completed the film, I'll probably write up an article how NinerPaint helped in the production of our flick... in which it has helped out greatly with planning the setup of each shot quickly and the ability to easily present the storyboards while still on my handheld or via the internet by exporting the clips.

Tree Life, by Bonnie Dahlstrom

Hou Tree

This Hou tree can be either a shrub or a tree. It has big, flat leaves and a gnarled trunk that likes to twist along the ground unless it's trimmed and trained to be a tree. This one grows near Sandy Beach.

This wandering Jew plant lives on our lanai. When the sun comes up over the mountain in the morning, it glows right through the leaves. There are small, bright green leaves on another plant right behind it.

Isis, by Estelle Perruchot

Isis The Cat

Estelle is 12 years old and likes to draw cats. Her favourite character, Isis, stars in several comic strips that she has drawn. She figured out the basics of the program in one minute and drew these frames in 20. Her only request: a zoom mode. I would hate to disappoint her and have therefore added it to the list.
